Steinberg has released X-Stream, a monophonic spectral synthesizer with which you can create completely new sounds, or compose exciting ambient music, and it’s completely free!
For those who work with film scoring or have Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, or similar artists as role models, the free plug-in X-Stream is truly a godsend. An incredibly powerful tool for audio creators!
Steinberg themselves claim that X-Stream for HALion can handle samples, or audio clips, and turn these into a “colorful spectrum of sounds”, by time-stretching, looping and manipulating the sounds in a completely new way.
X-Stream can twist and turn, slow down or speed up sounds and thus transform any samples with the help of both new and innovative “spectral algorithms” and other effects.
X-Stream is a new tool for sound design, but it can also create interesting rhythms and beats. Through its ability to create strange pads or “drones” for ambient music, X-Stream also works excellently for those who compose film scores and the like. And all this is absolutely free!
X-Stream contains lots of exciting ready-made factory sounds, but above all, you can also load your own audio files – anything – one-shots, or entire soundtracks. Your imagination sets the limit.
Download it!
You can download X-Stream for free by going to the Steinberg website and logging in, or creating a new account, and downloading the Steinberg Download Assistant. Keep in mind that you need some version of HALion 7.1 to be able to run X-Stream. The free version of HALion Sonic 7.1 works great, so be sure to download that as well, on the same time, if you don’t already have it.
For those interested in the full version of HALion 7.1, you can buy it at half price until the end of July 2024.
